U18s win Final at Hove

Worthing CC U18s triumphed on Finals Day of the Santander Twenty20 Big Smash tournament, which took place last Sunday at the County Ground, Hove. Having qualified from Pool A earlier this summer, winning all 3 of their games, Worthing defeated Seaford in the first semi-final of the day by 102 runs with Mason Crane (77) and Nick Ballamy (57) helping Worthing to an impressive 190 for 5 at the close of innings. Facing a daunting total, Seaford were never up with the required run rate as Harry Dunn and Mason took 3 wickets apiece to restrict the opposition to just 88 in their alloted overs.

Bexhill qualified from the other semi-final, overcoming Findon, to take their place alongside Worthing in the final under lights. Having won the toss, Bexhill elected to bat but this decision quickly backfired as they found themselves 4 for 3 in the 3rd over, a position from which they never really recovered. Harry Dunn took centre stage bagging 4 wickets although Bexhill did mount a partial recovery reaching 84 for 8 in their 20 overs. Despite losing an early wicket, Worthing had plenty in their line-up reaching the target for the loss of just 3 wickets in the 13th over with Mason Crane (30), Harvey Von Biel (20) and Nick Oxley, who hit the winning runs finishing on 30 not out, the main contributors.

A well-deserved victory for this U18s squad who have enjoyed much success over many years together. We look forward to seeing them star for the Worthing senior teams in the years to come.
